Spiritual Emergency is a type of healing crisis that can occur when a person has an encounter with psychological, emotional or spiritual states that lie outside their usual ways of organizing experience. These encounters can occur in an unbidden way or they can be a result of a spiritual exploration. People can respond to these encounters in a variety of ways: from a state of collapse to a state of acceleration and everywhere in between.
In this talk, we will explore the various ways spiritual emergency can present and look at potential types of triggers to this phenomenon. We will also explore the different ways these healing crises are perceived by others and how those perceptions can color experience and outcomes. Isa will draw from 25 years of clinical research in this area and offer case studies to help illustrate and clarify this often-misunderstood experience.
