We are living in an unprecedented era. The triple pandemics of COVID-19, white supremacy, and the climate crisis are drawing worldwide attention to the deep economic, social and environmental injustices of our time. In a March 10, 2021 interview with the CBC’s What on Earth host Laura Lynch, one of Greenpeace Canada’s communication officers Jesse Firempong and other BIPOC climate and environmental activists talked about how major environmental groups often prioritize white voices, concerns and perspectives, despite the fact that negative climate and environmental impacts disproportionately affects BIPOC individuals and communities. In my pre-recorded talk, Amplifying Presence in/for Climate & Environmental Justice, I will focus on the issues raised by Firempong and the artwork of BIPOC artists engaging with climate & environmental justice, especially those with an emphasis on contemplative practice.
